For only $50 more, you get a whole lot more hardware for the price, so we recommend the other dv7 configuration with the $400 coupon. All new dv7 with Ivy Bridge comes with free upgrade to 8GB of RAM plus free upgrade to Blu-ray optical drive.

Finally the wait is over. Ivy Bridge HP dv7 quad edition laptops are here! The base config comes with a fast 3rd Generation i7-3610M at 2.3 Ghz with a base GeForce GT 630M. Good upgrades would be a faster HDD or the 32GB mSSD hard drive acceleration cache, plus the full HD display panel option.

This configure comes with the 2GB GT 650M. We personally think 2GB is pointless/useless with the GT 650M, but unlike the dv6, the dv7 doesn't come with a 1GB option so this is your only choice if you want faster gaming capability (and its a whole lot faster).

Why do you think the 2gb card is useless? You need as much video memory possible when playing games like skyrim

I'm sure it'll help as you play games at higher resolution to have more video RAM (especially if you upgrade to the 1080p option), but for a mid-range card with a 128-bit memory bandwidth, you can stuff as much RAM as you want, but you'll never really use a portion of them as at some point, the GPU itself just can't even max to the point where the additional RAM will help. The good news is HP decided to put GDDR5 version of RAM into this GT 650M vs the slower DDR3, so things aren't as bottlenecked as they would seem. If you think you'll be using multiple displays for gaming, then yeah the 2GB will help. I'll make an edit later to make it not seem so useless, but its more situational and depends on usage.

The 1gb card has ddr3 the 2gb card is a step up and comes with ddr5, the benchmarks speak for themselves. Imho the 1gb shouldnt even be a option as the i-7 integrated graphics benchmarks better with shared memory, if I had my way i'd ditch the video card all together and save 100ish bucks. But it is the practice of hp to put super low end video cards with less memory than would be shared by the integrated graphics thus gimping their pcs at a premiun to the consumer.... in any event the 400 coupon is nice thanks.

Scott, looks like we were talking about two different things then. I was talking about how the dv6 has the 1GB GT 650M GDRR5 option while the dv7 doesn't have that option. Of course there's a significant step-up to the Kepler 650M vs the slower 630M. I guaranteed there's not too much difference in benchmarks in the GT 650M 1GB vs 2GB, but the dv7 doesn't have that choice, so its a moot point anyways.

The new dv7 with Ivy Bridge now comes with a 33% off coupon! We've added the 1080p display upgrade to this configuration and its well worth it to do more upgrades given the discount will scale. The 2GB GT 650M is a worthwhile upgrade if you ever plan to play games (and to be honest why wouldn't you !?)

I was comparing prices on Amazon, Costco and Goggle to get a Dell, but I have been so happy with HP, so I went to the HP site and customized a 17"dv7 and 15" dv6. I decided to pack on the dv6 (already have a 23" touchscreen desktop)and then decided to search to see if I could find a coupon to reduce the price. Found this site and boy was I glad I did. I took the price from $1460 to $977. Thank you so much. Pat.

New 33% coupon makes the Ivy Bridge dv7 extra enticing, especially since you can get the fully loaded config for under $1,000 now. This comes with the GT 630 but you should totally upgrade to the Kepler 650M for more juice, making it a good desktop replacement option.

I called HP direct and got the coupon. I ordered the 17.3" HP dv7t Quad Edition Ivy Bridge Core i7-3610QM (3rd Gen), GeForce GT 650M 2GB, FREE 8GB, FREE Blu-ray and they told me the coupon you listed (NBP8784) was worth $550.00. GREAT DEAL. Thanks. I got everything I needed, upgraded the memory to 1.5 TB and still paid $400.00 less than I expected when I priced a similar model on the website. Thanks!!!!!

Thanks, fixed. For others, you can obviously add the GT 650M if you want to for the $75, if you play games or plan to, this is a good upgrade to add onto the machine (I personally highly recommend it, since its so much faster for only $75).

Best price ever for this 17.3-inch supersized laptop from HP. This week HP gave it the newer Core i3-2330 cpu (from Core i3-2310M) which makes it a really decent mid ranged laptop. More importantly this laptop is $50 cheaper than it ever was w/ the i3-2310M chip. For those who want a huge laptop screen but don't need to play the newest games this is a great value. The coupon code making this deal will expire Oct. 19.

The trick is to watch VERY closely when putting your order in. The first time I got to the end and HP didn't count the coupon code - they said they had a better price - NOT. I put the info back in and it was accepted. Good advice when putting any order in I guess. Just passed your site on to another co-worker.

Lowest price for the dv7t Core i5 config with Blu-ray. Generally this configuration will cost you about $50 to $75 more but new dv7t coupon makes the add-on option a nearly break-even deal.

Really good value for 17.3-inch HP dv7t laptop. It's $13 less than the previous best price from April and $83 cheaper than HP usually sells for after coupon code. As an extra bonus HP gave it a free Blu-ray player upgrade (normally an extra $100).

Everything About the HP DV7t Series

HP's dv7t series of laptops are designed as a desktop replacement for situations where you need a real workhorse. With a 17.3" inch widescreen display it has enough screen real estate to make you feel at home away from home. With a wide range of upgrades available the dv7t can suite almost any need; from a powerful gaming rig to a workstation away from home the dv7t can deliver the performance you need. It’s a bit on the heavier side which is to be expected with a big laptop like this, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a long plane ride.

Current dv7tqe coupon codes: HP occasionally releases big flat rate coupons or a 30% off coupons, which are percentage based and are currently better than the usual dollar amount coupons - especially if you're wanting to add some big upgrades, like the higher-end Ivy Bridge chips or higher resolution display (1920 x 1080). The new GeForce GT 650M upgrade for $75 is well worth it too for gamers..

HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition
HP dv7t Quad Edition side profile with USB 3.0 ports and Blu-ray Drive

Higher-end HP dv7t Quad Edition (aka dv7tqe)

With the dv7t Quad Edition you get the added benefit of a quad core processor, Intel’s flagship the i7. This turns your laptop into a true workstation replacement with the power of serious multitasking. The added speed is sure to hurt battery life though, so that is a good thing to keep in mind when exploring this upgrade. The quad core is sure to suck more power than its little brothers.

The graphics card performance in this model is not at serious gamer level, but still more than adequate if you don’t plan on playing the very latest releases on full settings. With the base Radeon HD 6490M graphics card you should have enough power to play most new games at medium settings with good play-ability. Springing for the Radeon HD 6770M (at times only a $25 upgrade) provides a nice upgrade at a very good price. Games like Crysis and Warcraft 2 should play very well with this higher option graphics card.

Newly 2012 released Ivy Bridge based models comes with two choices of GeForce GT 630M or the 2GB GT 650M, based on the new Kepler architecture. Suffice to say the GT 650M is a lot faster than the 630M, and you can expect more performance when compared to the older Radeon 7690M (aka 6770M).

In addition to a beefier processor and better graphics options the Quad Edition throws in some nice extras like Beats Audio sound processor for improved sound quality and clarity as well as a brushed metal case.

HP dv7t Select Edition

An older model of the dv7t series that was recently discontinued by HP the Select Edition incorporated most of the higher end features of the base model such as the Intel i5 with some of the perks of the Quad Edition such as the Beats Audio sound processor and the brushed metal finish.

HP dv7t Base Model

The dv7t is HP’s base model 17” laptop. It comes standard with integrated graphics and fair processing power for the average users. With the base Intel i3 processor the laptop would be well suited for the average user. The Intel i3 lacks the Turbo Boost ability of the Intel i5, but for most everyday users this would not be a large factor. If you’re looking at doing a fair bit of multitasking it might be worth it to shell out the extra money for the lowest level Intel i5, but tests have shown the extra Turbo Boost available in the more expensive Intel i5 models to be fairly in-effective in practical use.

The graphics offering on the dv7t are good for the casual gamer or viewing HD video. Integrated Intel HD Graphics should let you play most newer games on lowest settings with moderate performance, but if you are looking at more graphically intense games like Crysis or Starcraft 2 it would be well worth the extra money to upgrade to discrete graphics. Upgrading to the Radeon HD 5470 should allow you to get into the newer releases if you’re alright running them on low whereas the Radeon HD 5650 should let you bump the settings up to medium-high range with newer games.

dv7t quad edition back cover profile

Bottom Line on the dv7 Series

For someone who wants the screen real estate to do productivity work on their laptop and wants to play the newest gaming releases with modest settings, the dv7 will be a good fit. With both models (dv7tqe and dv7t) coming standard with 8GB of memory you should be equipped with more than enough memory for all but the biggest power users without having to pay extra. If you don't need the bigger screen though, you might want to consider exploring the HP dv6 for better portability because it is equipped with many of the same specifications in a smaller 15.6-inch format.
