Dante's Inferno the video game (3rd person) is based on the first part of the poem Divine Comedy (which is widely believed to be the foundation for Western Civilization's understanding of heaven, hell and purgatory).

In the game, you take a quest of vengeance through the 9 circles of Hell - Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, Treason in search of Dante's loved one.
