Today, LCDs dominate the market for computer monitors (Before 2003, it was CRT). LCDs are flat, bright and energy efficient. Their distinguishing differences are, in order of importance, screen size, aspect ratio (widescreen or normal), and resolution. Aspect ratio has become an important feature because the widescreen aspect ratio allows you to view movies as you would in the theaters. Widescreen is also a more efficient workflow for doing spreadsheets, or side-by-side work.
There are more qualities that you can make decisions over but many of them are quickly becoming standardized, or "good enough" across even the cheapest monitors.
